Trackstar Promoter Paul Butler has expressed disappointment with
the inevitable cancelation of this Saturday's F1 & 2L Stock Car
Meeting.
The date itself was shaping up to be a cracker with 26 definate
F1 bookings together with a couple of extras such as Willie Peters
who was going to be one of the surprise additions, well over 40 2L
Stock Cars and nearly 20 1300 Stock Cars.
However the track took a real hammering last Saturday when monsoon conditions damaged
the track during a major banger meeting. Speedway only just got on last Wednesday
although the inside of the track had to be moved half way along the track.
The track has been relaid but is very soft. An early decision was made to cancel Speedway
on Saturday and although the track is raceable, running the two heaviest formulas in
the shape of F1 and 2L Stock Cars will rip it out completly.
Last year the Wacky Races which takes place on Monday was second only to the F1 World
Final in terms of crowd and we could not allowed that event to be in jepardy due to the
damage from the stock cars.
Fridays Speedway meeting was called off early and there was also the bg worry that if
the F1s did more damage to the track that Wednesday's speedway meeting would also be
in jeopardy.
Butler commented "We will probably be standing there in glorious sunshine on Saturday
wondering what we have done. If there are a couple of drying days on Friday and Saturday
then the track would be fine to run with F1s with no damage incurring - however with the
forecast not looking good and bearing in mind the distance many fans and drivers travel to
race at Lynn it was felt an early decision would benefit all rather than waiting until Saturday
morning."
This meeting will not now be rescheduled.
