CRUMPLING CRASHES AT
FIGURE OF 8 CARNAGE
The centrepiece of the Stock Car and Banger fixture at the
Norfolk Arena on May Day Bank Holiday Monday was the annual
figure of eight event for the Bangers. Even though the extra
jeopardy of the crossroads in the middle of the track isn’t every
Banger drivers’ idea of fun, the event nonetheless attracted an
entry of more than 30 drivers which was ahead of expectations.
Those that were there certainly reported an enjoyable day out
and put on a cracking display of crashing for the large Bank

intersection within seconds of the first heat beginning where 128
Andy Lack, Darren Fendley, Barry Chilvers and Reynolds all came
together from various directions. 125 Nathan Lake also suffered
massive damage when he was picked up by another driver across
the diagonal and buried straight on into the wall at the far end.
395 Dave Goldsmith took a relatively untroubled victory.
The second heat was all about Lown who put on a stunning
attacking display using the same tactic of getting on the back of
other cars as they went across the diagonal and wiping them
around the wall at the end. 148 Ian Redden was his first and
biggest victim but other similar shots to 551 Stuart Franklin
and 102 Steve Old caused plenty more damage. 168 Calvyn
Girling won this race.
The Final was another very lively event with 209 Gary Haresign
introducing Chilvers to the wall hard before another big shunt at
