VANTASTIC AFTERNOON
The racing was typically lively with the opening race of
the afternoon having to be stopped twice when the van
of 673 Darren Fendley rolled over and then 334 Stu Green
was tipped over by 168 Calvyn Girling once the race resumed.
372 Martin Scully was the winner at the third attempt. The
second race witnessed some massive hits with 233 Rob
Aldridge laying into the mobile chippy hard and Girling having
a good attempt at getting on board Spike’s bus whilst
Saunders succeeded in ripping apart Young’s ambulance. 312
Tom Reynolds was the winner whilst the Final saw Warby tear
out the front axle of his Fire truck whilst giving more damage
to the Ambulance although he then rolled over the big A
Series as he tried to continue with the wheels no longer doing
their job in the steering department. Scully gained his second
win ahead of Reynolds and 65 Shaun Randall. The Destruction
Derby came down to Greeny and Spike in a Mercedes vs Minibus
battle and there were some massive exchanges between the
two monster vehicles with the drivers being urged on by an
enthralled crowd. In the end, size won the day with Spike
surviving as the last vehicle moving.
In the smaller vans, 425 Martin Stopher won both heats before
a lively Final saw 337 Ashley Garrod nail 639 Paul Vines to the
wall sparking a train of hits with John Clark blasting Garrod
before taking a package from 174 Joe Ellis. 375 Jamie
Chilverhouse was the winner ahead of 212 Richard Maryon
and 361 Chris Walden whilst the destruction derby saw Maryon
emerge as the winner after some big hits being exchanged with
888 Lloyd Stark.
The lady TSR Bangers produced different winners all day with
heats going to 762 Kerry Thurgill and 147 Sarah Gould before
the Final was won by 580 Louise Limb. Behind her, the battle
for the remaining podium places was very close but 897 Abigail
Smith just managed to stay ahead of 213 Trudy Gowler at the
flag.
