LEWIS TAKES FINAL

the honours as the race entered the final three laps. However,
he also had stiff competition from Cooke and 876 Neil Baxter
and in an unexpected twist, all three cars became entangled
as they all jostled for track space allowing 939 Steve Lewis
and Cottrill to dive past them. A thrilling last lap then saw
Cottrill constantly pushing on the back of Lewis to snatch
the lead away. Most drivers would have spun helplessly out
of control, but Lewis performed a near-miracle of survival to
cross the line first with Cottrill still gnawing at the back of
his car in second place and Chilverhouse recovering for third.
Cottrill returned to win the Allcomers race at the end of the
meeting.
In the lady TSR Bangers, 477 Amy Brown stormed away to
win the opening race before a crunching time in Heat Two
saw 36 Kelly Riches lose control and spin out in front of 600
Danielle Waterfield and 762 Kerry Thurgill who both ploughed
into the stricken car. 378 Joy Roberts was the winner of this
one whilst a very fast Final was won by 511 Helen Licqorice
ahead of 257 Anna Piggott and 74 Caroline Garner who
managed to spin 213 Trudy Gowler off course literally yards
from the finishing line in order to steal the place at the last
possible moment.
In the National MiniStox, Kieran Hardman made too keen a
start on the opening race of the night and despite crossing
the line first, he was penalised for a jumped start handing
victory to Joshua Smith. A big crash for Oliver Hertzog
brought a slightly early finish to the second race with Karl
Emmett getting the victory on the basis of the completed
distance although at the conclusion of the race he was under severe pressure from Georgia Neachell
and the race was building to an exciting climax. To prove his worth, Emmett returned and won the
Final over the full race distance with National Champion Jack Aldridge coming home second and
Neachell completing the top three.
