WIERD WEATHER & WACKY RACES
Luke Brinton all piling into the back of the crash in turn. This
left only two drivers in the running and Gill was steadily reeled
in by Medler who took the lead a couple of laps from home and
went on to win.
The Reliant Robins were once again a big hit and turned out in
good numbers to thrill the crowds with the rolling antics as
the fibreglass machines steadily smashed into pieces during
the course of the afternoon. One of the biggest crashes came
in the first race for the Reliants British Grand Prix when 229
Steve Footer launched Ben Oliver into a big roll with Oliver
rolling onto the top of the car of 78 Pete Burlton before rolling
back down again. Footer later took himself out by sliding wide
into the wall and sending himself into a very damaging barrel
roll down the home straight. 85 James Ellis emerged as British
Grand Prix Champion ahead of Reliant racing World Champion
399 Darron Atkins and 553 Danny Douglas. Atkins and Ellis
won the other races whilst a special award was given to 576
Colin Aldred for rolling over more of his fellow competitors
than any other driver. Oliver was crowned the rollover king for
getting tipped over on no less than five occasions during the
afternoon but amazingly his Reliant was still able to drive at
the end of the day’s racing.
