Mad) taking a hit from 513 Sean Harvey before landing a big
hit on 279 Colin Hurt whilst 86 Charlie Haller was destroyed
by 578 Lee Ranshaw (aka Mr Schizo) from Boston. 549 Phil
Smith of the Gladiators was the race winner and he
celebrated in style with a stunning follow-in delivered to
370 Mark French. By the time the East Anglian championship
came around on the race card, the heavens had opened and
conditions were very tricky for the drivers. This limited the
size of the crashes that the drivers could dish out although
there were still some lively moments involving 401 Steve
Hemmings, Golden and Danny Oliver from the Gladiators.
99 Ritchie Ahern led the way from start to finish with 148
Ian Redden getting the runner-up spot and outgoing Champion
439 Danny Sutton finishing in third.
Despite the conditions, drivers still returned to the track for
the Allcomers race which saw more lively crashing from Phil
Smith as 516 Carl Gould motored to the victory. Before the
destruction derby, 457 Danny McCormack braved the elements
to carry out a complete engine change to get his Banger back
out on track. However, he didn’t last long in the battle to be
the last surviving driver and it was Gladiator’s captain 336
Ian Smith who saw off team mate 184 Dave Osborne to take
the win.
With World Championship qualifying points on offer, the 2
Litre Bangers started out in a very rapid racing mood although
the opening heat did see a very early rollover for 331 Barry
Chilvers whose smart car was destroyed by 673 Darren Fendley
whose car climbed all over the rolling car just in front.
Thankfully there were no problems for Chilvers although he then
had to stand by and watch the rest of the racing with World
Champion 730 Dean Mayes winning the first heat. The second
