DEVASTATING UNLIMITED BANGER
ACTION
The Norfolk Arena staged its best ever Unlimited Banger
meeting over the weekend when 42 teams of up to 4
drivers each delivered a stunning entry of 146 Bangers for
the 15th staging of the Icebreaker British Team Championships.
This was a new record entry for Bangers at the Norfolk Arena
venue and also a new record for entries from Ireland with no
less than 6 teams finding a way across the Irish Sea to
compete despite the impact of the weather on ferry sailings.
Fans found plenty of rare cars to enthuse about in the pits
before the meeting with the Bad News team taking the
material team award for their rare haul of cars which
consisted of a Rover P5B for 91 Eric Newson, a pair of Vanden
Plas Princess 4 Litre Rs for 277 Des Owen and 280 Simon
Goodale and a 1966 Buick Riviera for 313 John Cullingford.
Other individual car awards went to Irish pairing 11 Paddy
Clerkin and 48 Mark Cassidy for their Volvo 264 Hearse and
Russian-built Gaz M20 Pobieda and local driver 96 Liam
Brinton for a stunningly painted Mk10 Jaguar. However, this
was just a small selection of the cars on offer to Banger
fans with another 4 Litre R, 2 Cadillac Fleetwoods (including
a limo), a Humber Hawk, a Mercedes Limo, numerous other
Rover P5s and even a Nissan Skyline being amongst the entry.
Particularly notable for their team event were also the
Steam Team who had assembled a quartet of over 20-year old
Japanese cars for their team including Toyota Crowns for 53
Justin Garman and 397 Stuart Sandell, a Datsun 280C for 537
Martin Brunson and a Nissan 300C Estate for 439 Danny
Sutton.
As well as the rare cars, there were also some incredibly well
painted machines in evidence including the stunning Daimler
DS420 Hearse and Limo pair for 174 Curtis Rathbone and 266
Callum Hall and the Undertakers team also turned out a couple
of stunners for 6 Ronnie Bennett and 333 James Cooke.
