BIG ENTRY FROM BANGER
OPENER
him to retire. This allowed Broomfield to go one better than his
performance in the Final and take a convincing victory.
The 1300 Stock Cars were very much on form with plenty of
incident and contact in all of their races. The opening heat of
the night had to be stopped and completely rerun when 274
Anthony Roberts crashed out into the wall with 215 Ben Yould
with Roberts’ car climbing the plating and finishing the wrong
way up although the driver was unharmed. 27 Steve McMillan
led the second attempt at the race for a distance until he had
to retire with a radiator leak leaving 668 Rick Martin to take up
the running and cross the line first. The second race was very
tough for father and son duo 673 John and 473 Dean Moat with
son Dean getting blasted out into the wall by 09 Buster
Ketteringham at the start of the race before John found
himself exchanging blows with 07 Ady Moden which ultimately
saw John spin out of control. With the plumbing repaired,
McMillan romped home to victory although he was unable to
repeat the feat in the Final after the lively Ketteringham fired
him off line in the early stages of the race. Despite a strong
recovery from McMillan, a race stoppage part way through the
race saw the grid closed up whilst the unlucky Roberts was
cleared from the middle of the track where his car had come
to a halt. On the restart, 08 Lee Green swept to the front of
the field and took the win ahead of McMillan and 278 Chris
Sutton.
